We absolutely don't want this to happen, since it would mean thousands of extra dollars of debt for many already low-income borrowers. Numerous proposals to address the looming rate doubling are being debated in Congress, and both sides of the aisle have already seen one bill each get voted down. But there's one thing all of these proposals have in common: They don't go nearly far enough to help students… RELATED: http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/higher-education/news/2013/05/23/64254/proposals-to-bring-student-loan-interest-rates-under-control/http://www.twitpic.com/cxnal5

In the now-defunct Starz series Boss, there's a reporter character named “Sam Miller” played by actor Troy Garity who complains about lazy reporters who just blindly eat whatever storylines are fed to them by people in power. He called those sorts of stories Chumpbait. If the story is too easy, if you're doing a piece on a sensitive topic and factoids are not only reaching you freely, but publishing them is somehow not meeting much opposition from people up on high, then…http://www.twitpic.com/cwqkg4

Last night, The Guardian published a secret court order, issued under Section 215 of the Patriot Act, that requires Verizon Business Network Services to provide “on an ongoing daily basis” phone records for all “communications (i) betw…http://www.twitpic.com/cvp7g6

Black Panther Party, was an “All Power To All The People!” organization, whether you're black, white, blue, green, yellow, or polka dot. We believed in black unity, but only as a catalyst to help humanize the world. The Black Panther Party worked for self-determination and social justice for all people The Black Panther Party sought to end racism AND sexism. The Black Panthers were brothers and sisters. They fought alongside each other and it was an egalitarian subculture; much more so than mainstream America in the 60′s, when women were meant to be homemakers and live a mindless, obligatory existence for the sole purpose of serving others (husband and children). In the subculture of the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Movement during the era of the Civil Rights, the women had stature, presence and perhaps, almost as much power as the men did in this movement (especially Angela Davis). These Black Panther women’s voices were heard, encouraged, and they said whatever the hell they wanted. In these two cultures (white and black) which were world’s apart but co-existed in America during the Civil Rights Revolution, this positive aspect of the movement was often overlooked. Women in the Black Panther Party were fighting for women’s rights, and they were fighting with their voices, their passion to end inequity and to establish basic human rights. These women were an integral, critical influence in the feminist/women’s rights movement. These black women were at the dangerous activist forefront of establishing more freedom and rights for women of every color. And make no mistake, there were also white and brown women right by their sides. #blackpantherparty #bobbyseale #blackpanthers #womenblackpanthers #kathleencleaver #angeladavis All Power To All The People! It's an unsettling blend of confusion and sorrow that should really only be reserved for the sudden death of a relative or times you watch Gaspar Noé films after a night of weird, powdered psychedelics. The worst thing about it is that, unless you're the Koch brothers and the stuff that's been pinched is the contents of your safe, it's unlikely that you're ever going to see your stolen belongings again. The police just don't have enough time to follow up every phone that goes missing at 4 AM. Howe…http://www.twitpic.com/csbwut

How's it going? I'm all right, thank you. I hope you're ready for my lovely conversational grammar, or lack thereof … I'm sure we'll be fine. So you have a new band, the Guantanamo School Of Medicine – your first permanent group since Dead Kennedys. What happened? I never thought I would wait so long between bands. It happened at a Stooges show in San Francisco for Iggy's 60th birthday party in 2007. It occurred to me while I was watching the Stooges that, holy shit, I turn 50 next year! The latest political game sweeping the nation is called “Pee on the Poor.” Republican lawmakers in some 30 states – including Florida, Georgia, Indiana, and (of course) Texas – are competing to be national champions of this X-treme right-wing sport. Being poor used to be considered its own punishment, but in a rush to pander to their fringiest anti-government constituencies, GOP governors and legislators are trying to add state harassment and humiliation to the burden of people in poverty. Bellowing such bellicose words as “moochers” and “takers” at their targets, these politicians want to force welfare…http://www.twitpic.com/chu6el

You're with the other parents at your kid's little league game, or attending a church social, or hanging out with your friends when someone who knows you're a union member asks the question, “What do unions do, anyway?” The national AFL-CIO has launched an innovative, brand new section of its website –www.aflcio.org/atWork – that focuses on telling the story of what unions and union members do best – making America work – and how people working together through their unions contribute to society in ways beyond just providing good jobs with good benefits. “America's unions are continuously evolving and finding …http://www.twitpic.com/cavae3
