Well as a union member, AFTRA & SAG, I had to work hard and do quality work to get in the union in NY. Before that, all my non-union work paid me little or nothing, as if I should feel grateful to work for free. Once in the union, I was paid fairly and offered better prices on health care and even retirement options. Somebody was fighting for me. When I moved to Texas, I found that because it was a right to work state, I either had to withdraw from the unions I belonged to with no chance of joining again, or work under an assumed name, because it was very hard to find union work. Nobody wanted to pay union rates or follow union rules, and once again I would have been forced to work for low or no wages. No thank you! Yes, we can let corporations bust the unions with their bought legislators, and we can create third world sweat shops here in America, but there will be a price to pay, and it will include a sharp rise in violent crime.
