In this poor economy many graduates are unable to obtain a job or earn enough money to pay back the debt. While it is not impossible to discharge student loan debt in bankruptcy, it might as well be. We can thank the Bush administration for that. Five years ago Peabody Energy decided to dump all its union miners and retiree benefit obligations into the newly formed Patriot Coal. Seems that everyone but the federal bankruptcy court judge could see this was a brazen move on Peabody's part with only one aim in mind: dumping its financial obligations. But in this case, the bankruptcy was permitted. And that's just not right. 2005 Law Made Student Loans More Lucrative http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9803213 Patriot Bankruptcy Puts Retired Miners in Life and Death Struggle http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mary-anne-hitt/patriot-bankruptcy-puts-r_b_3422793.html The Student Loan Debt Crisis in 9 Charts http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/06/student-loan-debt-chartshttp://www.twitpic.com/cx1sg6

That’s what the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) determined. Despite that, Mr. Hedger lost his Antioch, Ill., home. His case got mired in allegations that the board that heard it was illegitimate. Similarly, West Virginia’s Cannelton miners wrongly lost their jobs. The NLRB said so twice. A few minutes before, the kid had been rough-housing in the surf with a friend, and the cops wanted to question him about it. Moments later, the cops body-slammed the boy—still holding his puppy—onto the beach, got him in a chokehold, and arrested him for resisting arrest. So far, so sickeningly normal. That the troika fuck! ” (The can print / share this following link to Scribd ) 41,640 people evicted, fired 44,890, 1,648,200 unemployed, a third of the population in poverty, 200,000 domestic workers without rights, more than 2,000 migrants to ICD's, and … the list is long, very long for Catalan society. But in the coming months only hear about budget cuts, restructuring pubic administration, deficit, debt, sanitation, rescue …'re fed up! Again, the social movements, unitary platforms, neighborhood organizations, groups and unions, in short, we, all together, enough to say its cuts, its austerity and its restructuring. And we say to people who are in government and they want to adopt again, budgets cuts and injustices, we say the Spanish government, which wants to pay its debt and its multinationals, and I say to Merkel and the European Union that we are not to blame for the crisis but we are simply the victims. And that's why for months that we are working to change this situation, we do every day denouncing the injustices of CIE's, we do fighting fracking all over the Catalan region, we do denouncing abortion law reform, it we stopping evictions and releasing new spaces for people evicted – we must not forget that today the social work of PAH has already released seven buildings in the ACC, but we also do in schools and health in the case of closed budget. Today we are here to say that our lives are worth more than their profits are La Caixa, Telefonica or Agbar. I keep pulling the thread, we can not forget the 26,000 million tax fraud loved the Catalan Countries. How many hospital beds is everything closed? How many college scholarships? How many social benefits or public investment? Absolutely no money! What we lack is the political will to go find them where they are. Must destroy tax fraud, and recover inheritance tax to pay more than those who have more! And that was the budget debate: the conflict of interest between the needs of most social privileges and uncrowded. Its debt against our rights, benefits against our health, education, culture and pensions. But if you thought claudicaríem once again be wrong. Because we're fed up because we lost together because we fear! And that is why today we do not want to forget the folks of PAH, which in recent weeks have been tried and tried to defend the right to housing in Sabadell and Vic students repressed Catalan universities to defend a quality public education, people attributed to defend our rights in general and you go past all that, Patricia, have suffered police brutality in recent months. Because neither will his or her ball clubs that make us shut up. We are here to reject budgets that are antisocial advertiser and blackmail we are doing around them. We accept no cuts in education, health, social welfare cuts … are not allowed jobs, lost wages, deregulation and deteriorating working conditions … are not allowed looting companies and utilities. Do not allow poverty, inequality, or the destruction of our environment back fracking, the privatization of public space projects Eurovegas style. We do not want to be a maquila Southern Europe! There is another possible way. One way to deal with what happens: the city and the dictates of the troika, yes. But also the financial powers, to lobbyists and big rentiers our house. It is an alternative that happens not to pay its debt and its crisis. We have reasons not quite trust the willingness of the government, nor the audacity of this Parliament. There is sure who will tell you that under these conditions, there is nothing to do. Do not listen. At a certain age it is remembered that Franco died in bed, but his dictatorship died on the street. The youngest you have seen a September 11 tectonic plates that are removed from the system inherited from the transition. Even the current configuration of political forces has the imprint of the last strike. From a sustained social mobilization can change many things, generating alternatives, profoundly changed the political landscape, allowing the emergence of new subjects … This fight just begins. We will return. The 2013 budget will not be a formality or an adjustment back to the village. We will return. The first condition for any progress, however, is our unity. Together we can and together. This is not a slogan for a complete demonstration: a realization. We come to rhetoric, but to write our own history, to take charge of our destiny. Stop antisocial budget! Courage! Dignity expire! Together we will win!http://www.twitpic.com/cudvgc

Deemed fabricated and shameful case of Saber Mraihi sparked outrage and rebellion of many young Tunisians who came out just like Saber defend and keep their neighborhoods during the first days after the departure of Ben Ali in Indeed, a policeman who complained against Saber Mraihi says he recognized a video one year after the events. The activists have been slapped with several charges including taking part in an illegal procession and cruelty against animals. The group Monday said the charges “lacked sufficient disclosure” and asked the court to declare the case “unconstitutional”, and set them free. “The Constitution demands that anyone arrested should be informed of the charge, given sufficient details, understand it first before pleading,” Lawyer Harun Ndumbi for the accused said. Americans who value public education have a new reason to worry: “parent trigger” laws. Journalist Yasha Levine has just detailed this new danger in a case study of the nation’s first public school privatized under “trigger” legislation. Under this “reform,” if enough parents sign a petition, they can have their local public school turned over to a private contractor… RELATED: http://www.toomuchonline.org/tmweekly.htmlhttp://www.twitpic.com/cp1j8d

#union #iww #occupy #ows #p2 #p21 #tlot #tcot #TeaParty Four Reasons to Worry About the Potential Koch Takeover of Tribune Co. Newspapers Splashed across the Sunday edition of the New York Times was news that the Koch Brothers — not content with nearly derailing the entire American political system in the last decade — are expected to place a bid to buy the Tribune Company’s eight newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Orlando Sentinel, and the Baltimore Sun. If their bid is successful, the Koch brothers won’t just have a strong influence over the laws we all live under and the climate we pass on to the next generation, they’ll be publishing the news we read. The New York Times confirmed earlier reports that Charles and David Koch are pursuing a bid for the Tribune Company newspapers, which include the Los Angeles Times, the Orlando Sentinel, The Baltimore Sun and many others. The Kochs, despite financing an unprecedented outside advertising and field campaign, failed to unseat President Barack Obama—a man Charles has referred to as “Saddam Hussein.” In a recent employee newsletter, Charles makes clear he’s not giving up. “As a company, we are committed to doing what is right in every aspect of our business,” wrote Charles. “That is why we will continue doing everything we can to persuade politicians to put what is good for the country first, before it is too late.” If the Koch brothers treat the papers as they do their other philanthropic and political endeavors, the public will be at a great loss. Here are four reasons why: 1.) Koch Known for Peddling Politics Through Every Aspect of Business, Philanthropy: One way the Kochs have influenced policy is through large grants to universities and students to pursue research relating to the Koch’s view of how society should operate. Unlike most other academic donors, Koch attaches strings to their grants, dictating how faculty are hired and which research programs can be pursued, as was the case with the controversy at Florida State University. If Charles Koch is to be believed when he said this year that he would do “everything” he can to persuade politicians, how will the Tribune Company papers maintain independence? 2.) Koch Distorts Science for Profit: Some of Koch Industries’ core businesses—fertilizer, chemical plants, coal shipping, fracking, heavy crude oil refining, cement and petroleum coke—contribute millions of tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and are the reason that Koch is the fifth-biggest air polluter in the country. Though this pollution will ruin the lives and property of many Americans, Koch avoids responsibility by funding a large array of propaganda outlets and think tanks dedicated to distorting the science related to Koch pollution in a bid to stave off regulation. Back in the day, this meant funding efforts to claim acid rain (caused in part by Koch pollution) was a “hoax.” Now, Koch sponsors carnivalesque moon bounces for children to encourage their parents to oppose the EPA’s power to enforce the Clean Air Act, a pledge signed by most GOP lawmakers to avoid action on global warming, as well as many think tanks to provide an ideological or academic veneer for their lies about climate science. “If we win the science argument, it’s game, set, and match,” said Tim Phillips, the political operative hired by David Koch to fight efforts to curb carbon pollution, among other goals. How will Tribune Company newspapers continue their award-winning environmental journalism? 3.) Will the Tribune Reporters Continue to Investigate Koch Influence?: Tribune Company reporters have led in the way in uncovering Koch Industries’ influence in politics and policy. In February of 2011, the Los Angeles Times revealed that David Koch met personally with John Boehner on the first day of the new Congress in the speaker’s chambers, and that Koch’s political spending during the midterm elections helped shape the Boehner’s policy agenda. Last year, the paper reported on a Koch-connected nonprofit that skirted California campaign disclosure laws to funnel million to back two major statewide propositions. Will the papers continue to investigate Koch Industries’ outsized influence in society if the Koch brothers purchase the Tribune Company? 4.) Koch Finances Hate: Koch’s premiere grassroots organizing group, Americans for Prosperity, has funded rallies where health reform has been compared to the Holocaust. The group routinely invites speakers who are known for spreading hatred and conspiracy theories, including anti-immigrant zealot Russell Pearce (who was given an award by AFP) and leading “birther” Jerome Corsi. AFP was exposed by Politico for helping sponsor shock jocks like Mark Levin. Moreover, Koch has been highly involved in the anti-gay Council for National Policy, a group devoted to promoting the homophobic activism of Focus on the Family, Rev. John Hagee, and the Family Research Council. The Tribune Company papers have served as a watchdog for hate in society; how will their reporters cope with being in league with such extremism? _In fact, every September, Koch Industries’ employees celebrate “Founder’s Day,” a celebration of Fred Koch, the founder of Koch Industries and an early leader of the anti–civil rights John Birch Society. Will Tribune Company employees join the festivities honoring a man who warned: “The colored man looms large in the Communist plan to take over America?” http://www.thenation.com/blog/174043/four-reasons-worry-about-potential-koch-takeover-tribune-co-newspapers# #greedylyingbastardshttp://www.twitpic.com/cp1zrz
